swedens speedmarket avenue are a a pop music collective led by a little guy who looks like a cross between charles manson and marc bolan. their new album is, without a doubt, one of the musical highlights in 2008 for all pop lovers! their debut album im going to let my new swiss army knife answer to that, was packed ful of jangle pop reminiscent of label 53rd and 3rd. the band have played various european festivals and collaborated with camera obscura on their lets get out of this country album thanks to the mutual connection of producer, jari haapalainen. under his direction, they ve now recorded their second album, way better now. an absolute beauty from beginning to end replete with precious pop melodies in a non conventional way, imaginative arrangements and an omnipresent trumpet. limited to 600 copies on vinyl.

dj q is back after a four year break, and he delivers here perhaps some of his finest productions to date. dj q aka paul flynn, turned out some timeless music in the 90s for labels like filter, dance mania and glasgow underground, and was championed by artists such as carl craig and derrick carter. superclique is a refreshingly energetic deep house club track, with swinging beats and lush atmospherics, plus a great little vocal hook. blue chicago combines chi town rhythms and detroit musicality, with a heavy nod to the classic sounds of derrick may and carl craig, with enough wobbly minimalism to keep the, er, minimal massive happy.

million dan is the man of the moment. with his killer album on the streets he is quite rightly regarded as the top uk mc right now. this little 7 inch is not as cheeky as it sounds. sam webster (aka sloth from headcount records) was working on some admin with the million dappa records team and when he heard the scream out original track he was really into it, but felt it could do with a re-rub that brought the energy out of million dans vocal delivery.

the original mix starts a complex roller, with a discreet but powerful bass line under some seriously hectic beats. the breakdown sees this track take a more musical tone and shows great depth, this one focuses on progressing themes throughout, and will appeal to those who like things a little left of centre

steve kotey needs little introduction, head honcho of bear entertainment, an accomplished producer and a member of chicken lips. kotey is joined on this record by max essa. having previously released on paper recordings back in 2001 max also played guitar with the infamous, long distance runners. steve & max have delivered 3 beautiful records in the shape of the salon de l herbe series. this ep offers up everything good that is disco from the up tempo 1974 a side to the spaced out vibes of 1988. if that wasnt enough this 12inch release is finished off with a 3 rd track 1981 on the cosmic/balearic tip. the years may become confusing but with live drums, guitars and slick arrangement words cant do these productions justice. more to come from these two with a follow up in the salon de l herbe series dueto be released in june/july 08, exciting stuff!

hanson & schrempf with banging hard techno action styled up with a little fun factor

already supported by pan-pot, sebo k, anja schneider, kiki, karotte... simplicity is the name of the game on both tracks here. on >louder elvis<, the two unleash pure deep-house bounce over ominous, detroit-inspired pads, clean-as-a-whistle bleeps laser their way through a fog of dubbed-out delay. the tunes flow suggests a live session, with tumbling chords following their own whims, but theres nothing haphazard about it. this ones all about the afterhours, head down and moving steadily into the light. a vocal sample kicks off >radio graceland< but dont expect any bloated rock n roll theatrics. instead, van dowski and agnès lay down a slowly rolling groove with a latin touch and even a little bit of reggaetón lurch. hand drums dapple the landscape with faded colors, keeping the mood subdued—at least, until the beat gathers steam and bright, syncopated chords splash about. groaning analog noises push the energy restlessly forward, driving dancers to wild abandon: the track is as effective as it is unconventional. what else would you expect from two of switzerlands most uncompromising crowdpleasers

welcome to the deepest nightmare of pulshar, welcome to nospheratus territory. an unforgettable trip into the darkest side of the bands soul, inspired by the cult movie nospheratu, this is one of the greatest dub and melancholic tracks of the year. a trippy bass and envolving melodies for an instant bloody dub joy. rod modell and steven hitchell take the controls on the b side and produce one of their best reworks yet under their echospace alias. they have reduced the original track to a deep and emotional piece. a majestic cavalcade into dub techno, a composition full of rich textures which remind of a cloudy day in detroit city, accompanied by a subtle conga that kicks off from the middle of nowhere and turns out really smooth, deep & dark. a little different than the material from their album on modern love, more reduced into the deepchord sound, a little more scaled back

phonogenics >postcard< is slow burner, building and rising to a eventual climax of melancholic underwater deepness. this song will no doubt be played by those in the later time slots and anyone who wants to add a little journey to their mixes. our main man dex aka dave barker is back with another slice of some quality melodic quirky goodness. >yikes!< has a very chopped up funk/soul feel mixed with solid house beats. studio trickery and a hidden japanese opera helps the track evolve from its soulful beginning to another world entirely. finally, we are very pleased to bring you the first of many musical efforts from amantu wilde. not much is known about amantu as he is a bit of a recluse and does not offer up much information about himself. >g-g-got my eyes on you< is a very retro sounding track reminiscent of some classic new wave jams. pseudo industrial percussion and excellent filter work make this track something to remember. something strange for sure but we think people will like the break from the mod rn sounds
